USTelecom Statement on FCC Chairman Kevin Martin
Background: Today, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin announced his resignation effective January 20th and shared that, upon his departure, he will assume the position of Senior Fellow at The Aspen Institute, a non-partisan think tank based in Washington, D.C.
The following statement is from Walter B. McCormick Jr., President and CEO of USTelecom:
“Chairman Martin presided over a pivotal period in the still-early story of our broadband nation. During his tenure, the nation reaped the many diverse benefits of unprecedented private capital investment in modern communications infrastructure throughout the nation. It is estimated that the nation’s nearly 1,400 broadband providers invested roughly $120 billion in the last two years alone. We also bore witness in the November elections to extraordinary citizen engagement in our democratic process, with millions of Americans turning to the Internet to share their political views, champion their candidates and causes and otherwise demonstrate the freedom that all Americans enjoy in their Internet experience today. The state of U.S. broadband is better for his leadership and his pro-investment policies. His is a record to build on in the years to come.”
