USTelecom Statement on Special Access Report
Background: Today, the National Regulatory Research Institute released a report with findings and recommendations regarding the special access market.
The following statement is from Jon Banks, Senior Vice President, Law and Policy, of USTelecom:
“While we are still reviewing the report, we are immediately struck by the total disconnect between the report’s findings and its recommendations. The report documents what our industry has long claimed: falling prices and rising competitive pressure among new competitive entrants. These findings are readily apparent despite the continued unwillingness of new entrants to provide information about their growing share of the special access market.
“With clear documentation that the competitive marketplace is not only working but expanding, the call for a return to the failed policies of 20th century price regulation is profoundly at odds with the near-consensus objective of promoting policies that encourage continued investment in broadband deployment. We look forward to continuing to work both at the federal level and with NARUC to promote constructive policies that advance this critical national objective.”
The United States Telecom Association, USTelecom, is the premier broadband trade association representing service providers
and suppliers for the telecom industry. USTelecom represents companies offering a wide range of services across the communications
platforms, including voice, video and data over local exchange, long distance, wireless, Internet and cable services.
