For both sources, we use data from Tables 1 and 3, which include subscriptions providing 200 kilobits per second in at least one direction.

This is the most current data available from the FCC.

The data provided above is for each year-end.

* Prior to June 2005, the FCC data reflect only carriers with more than 250 total subscribers; also prior to June 2005, the fiber line item included broadband over powerline and other.

** Includes xDSL and other wireline technologies.

*** Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) as reported by the FCC excludes services delivered over Fiber to the Neighborhood (FTTN) and terminated to the premises using a high-speed DSL technology, such as ADSL2+ and VDSL.

**** The FCC changed its methodology for counting mobile broadband subscribers starting in December 2008, resulting in an inconsistent mobile broadband data series over time; therefore, we report only the periods reflecting the new methodology.
