USTelecom Applauds Passage of Broadband Mapping Legislation
Background: Late yesterday, Congress approved S. 1492, the “Broadband Data Improvement Act.” The legislation updates the FCC’s broadband data collection standards and authorizes the Department of Commerce to undertake a program of public/private partnerships to increase broadband deployment and adoption.
The following statement is from USTelecom President and CEO Walter B. McCormick Jr.:
"We are very pleased that Congress has acted on this critical legislation that will increase broadband adoption and bring broadband service to underserved and unserved parts of the country. As this legislation acknowledges, using public-private partnerships to accelerate investment and deployment depends on accurate broadband mapping and effective targeting of resources. We applaud the work of the House and Senate on passing this bill, particularly the efforts of Sens. Inouye, Hutchison, and Stevens and Reps. Dingell, Markey, Barton and Stearns. Now as the bill heads to the White House for the president’s signature, we look forward to continuing our efforts to bring the benefits of broadband—from health care and education to entertainment and the environment—to all Americans, regardless of where they live."
