USTelecom Applauds Stevens Phantom Traffic Legislation
Background: Today, Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) introduced bipartisan legislation to address “phantom traffic,” traffic that is transmitted over telephone networks without identifying the information needed for billing purposes.
The following statement is from Walter B. McCormick Jr., President and CEO of USTelecom:
“Senator Stevens has crafted a balanced piece of legislation that addresses the serious problems from phantom traffic without imposing unnecessary financial burdens on carriers. This bill acknowledges that anyone using the public switched network must pay their fair share and provide the signaling information that is necessary to identify the source of the call. We appreciate Senator Stevens’ initiative on this important bill and Chairman Inouye’s support. We look forward to continuing to work with them as the legislation moves forward.”
