USTelecom Lauds Economic Stimulus Package
Background: Late Thursday, the Senate and House passed legislation that will encourage telecom companies to make additional investments in broadband this year. The bill allows providers to benefit from the 50% bonus depreciation provision for fiber purchased in 2008 as long as it is placed in service by the end of 2009.
The following statement is from Walter B. McCormick Jr., President and CEO of USTelecom:
“We commend Congress and the Administration for taking this action to help spur investment and broadband deployment. The stimulus package will help create even more opportunities for broadband companies—already spending billions on next-generation networks—to enhance the lives of consumers by connecting them to e-health programs and distance learning opportunities while improving the environment through telecommuting.”
