USTelecom Lauds Senate Hearing on Phantom Traffic
Background: Today, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation held a hearing to investigate “Phantom Traffic,” traffic over telephone networks that is sent without identifying information used for billing purposes among carriers.
The following statement is from Walter B. McCormick Jr., President and CEO of USTelecom:
“Phantom traffic is a very serious concern for communications providers today and we appreciate Senator Stevens’ leadership on this important issue. USTelecom has submitted a proposal to the Federal Communications Commission that would help prevent efforts to game the intercarrier compensation system and already there is significant industry support for the plan. We applaud Senators Stevens and Inouye for their support today in the hearing and are optimistic that the FCC will act soon to end this egregious practice.”
