USTelecom Urges FCC To Stay Retention Marketing Order
Background: Today, the United States Telecom Association (USTelecom) filed a brief with the Federal Communications Commission in support of Verizon’s petition for a stay of the Commission’s order directing Verizon to end its retention marketing program.
The following statement is from Walter B. McCormick Jr., President and CEO of USTelecom:
“With the communications market evolving and growing to offer consumers countless new opportunities and services, the lines between video and voice providers have permanently blurred. Unfortunately, the Commission’s recent Order that would end Verizon’s competitive marketing practice would create an artificial regulatory advantage for cable companies. The Commission has long recognized the competitive and consumer benefits of regulatory parity, yet this Order steps away from that Commission practice by prohibiting one set of competitors from engaging in pro-consumer retention marketing while others engage in similar practices. This order directly contrasts with the tremendous strides the FCC has taken toward competitive parity and the vibrant competitive benefits that have resulted. We strongly urge the Commission to stay its Order until full consideration of the competitive and consumer implications of the Order can be assessed.”
