Thanks to the power of broadband, online learning is captivating students with creative, virtual classrooms that transcend geography and make education fun. Recently, Brightstorm launched a classroom for teens featuring entertaining video-based courses that cover everything from geometry and writing to SAT and Advanced Placement tutorials. The short, often comedic videos even showcase helpful teen tips like managing stress or offer witty theatrical segments, such as “Hamlet in 60 Seconds.” Teens can also compete in contests and win prizes, such as “Music to My Eyes” which challenges students to create a music-based slide presentation. Similarly, TeacherTube offers videos that showcase everything from teachers rapping about the rules of multiplication to costume dramas about the First Continental Congress.
Teachers are increasingly tapping into these online resources, from filming their own video segments to assigning video watching to supplement students’ homework. And for educators who wish to easily and inexpensively extend their classroom online, Classtell now offers a convenient website-building capability with all of the trappings of a schoolroom environment.
Given the fact that 93% of young students say the Internet helps them learn, the growth of broadband-driven classrooms offers unprecedented learning opportunities that will enhance education in the U.S. and beyond.
