With apps proliferating for smartphones from BlackBerry to iPhone and developers hard at work on the next big thing, it should come as no surprise that a quick download over mobile broadband could brighten your holidays this season.

Here are a few highlights of fun apps that will bring holiday cheer and guide your festivities this year:

  • Merry Music—iCaroler delivers a virtual choir over broadband, while Christmas Radio connects listeners with more than 40 radio stations nationwide featuring holiday music.  Or, if you’re looking to tune into something more solemn, check out the app, Menorah, which includes Hanukkah prayers in Hebrew and English.
  • Festive Food and Drink—Ever wonder how to match the food on your holiday table with the perfect wine?  The Nat Decants Wine and Food Matcher app for Blackberry connects users with pairing recommendations from James Beard’s award-winning sommelier, Natalie MacLean. Or if you’re feeling frazzled about your grocery shopping, SmartShopper and Grocery IQ can help keep you organized and efficient in the midst of the holiday market.  And how about rounding out your holiday feast with sweet treats and gourmet cocktails?  Festive Holiday Baking and Festive Holiday Cocktails are your go-to apps to partake in these pleasures.
  • Shop and Travel Frugally—Looking for the best price on that last-minute gift?  ShopSavvy scans the bar codes of an in-store item, and tells you where to find the best price online or at nearby shops.  Yowza Mobile Coupons highlights discounts and deals for a wide range of stores – and connects you with the coupons to save your hard-earned dollars.  Or if you’re hunting for the best price at the gas pump, GasBag identifies the least expensive gas around.
  • Connecting with Traditions—From art and food to dreidels, history and menorahs, Hanukkah Envi connects users with the traditions at the heart of this holiday.  And Santa Tracker 2009 not only GPS tracks the big guy on his gift-giving journey, but also invites followers to send text messages to Santa.  And if this doesn’t bring you enough holiday cheer, consider the fact that 10% of the proceeds from this app are donated to Toys for Tots.

With today’s apps providing both entertainment and practical guidance, we can all be a bit savvier and have more fun this holiday season and beyond…thanks to broadband.
