Learn about Mobile-IP Backhaul February 26th, 2010

More than ever before, much of our day to day communications is taking place with wireless devices. From smartphones, netbooks, and tablet devices like the new iPad, more and more people are consuming voice, Internet and video content over wireless networks.

However we must not forget that an important piece of the wireless delivery ecosystem is a facilities-based “wired” backhaul network that transports this content out to the wireless access edges. On Thursday February 25th, Kevin Morgan from ADTRAN provided an informative webinar for our audience, taking a comprehensive look at the rapidly growing demand for wireless broadband services and how mobile backhaul service over IP networks is growing to meet that demand. Morgan provided a comparison of backhaul networks in North America with respect to the rest of the world and covered the various network architectures and technologies that can be deployed to provide mobile backhaul services.

USTelecom & Cisco Conduct Data Center Virtualization Webinar January 21st, 2010

Virtualization is a growing technology trend that has evolved from replacing the traditional 1:1 server architectures of just a few years ago, into the areas of virtualized storage, and virtualized networks. All of this creates a new opportunity for today’s datacenters to provide tremendous cost savings, environmental savings and overall efficiencies that have given birth to the “Cloud Computing” model.

On Thursday, January 21st, Vaughn Suazo from Cisco provided our audience a review of Cisco’s comprehensive vision and architecture for Virtualized Data Centers along with their impact on “Cloud” computing models. Vaughn began with the basic building blocks of virtualization and proceeded all the way through to actual service provider implementations of virtualized systems, networks and cloud computing data centers.

Webinar: 100G – Present Perspective & Future Trends October 1st, 2009

We are all familiar with Moore’s law and how it’s been applied to the growth of computing capacity; well we’re seeing a similar growth pattern in network transmission speeds as well. As high speed network demands are placed on our nation’s service providers, their thirst for higher transmission speeds follows right along in lock-step.

On Thursday, CIENA and USTelecom held a webinar titled “100G – Present Perspective & Future Trends.” Joe Berthold, CIENA’s VP of Network Architecture, and Dimple Amin, CIENA’s VP of Products and Technology, gave a comprehensive presentation on the latest 100GB/second transmission technologies that are meeting today’s demands, and they walked us through real world 100G deployments at the NYSE-Euronext stock exchange, and at the large Hadron Super Collider. We learned that there still is a trade-off between speed, hardware density and power consumption. Although the world is not altogether at the 100G level yet, prices for 100G components will come down as network upgrades take place over the next several years.

USTelecom Webinar: IPTV – One Size Does NOT Fit All! August 20th, 2009

At this stage of the game, IPTV services are no longer a novelty, and IPTV technologies are maturing very quickly, so the question is no longer “if” IPTV is an option, but what flavor IPTV should be deployed and when should a service provider deploy it to remain competitive in it’s service area.

USTelecom and Cisco held a free webinar today titled “IPTV Solutions…One Size Does Not Fit All” on just this topic.  On today’s webinar, Bob Shattner from Cisco covered several important topics ranging from video delivery over multiple access networks, managing a video delivery network, and even working with Over-The-Top content providers to add value to your services.

Webinar Recap: Desktop Video Conferencing June 18th, 2009

Over 50 years ago, the first video phone prototype was developed and subsequently demonstrated at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Since that time, the concept has witnessed tremendous advances in technology, but not quite the same advances with user adoption.

Today, USTelecom and Cisco held a webinar titled “Desktop Video Conferencing: Will It Take Hold This Time?” With the Internet offering global connectivity and high speed broadband service becoming more accessible, Cisco showed us how video conferencing is now moving from the board room to the desktop, and is poised for much greater acceptance in the marketplace. Mike Sonnier, Distinguished Systems Engineer from Cisco, pointed out that the widely deployed Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) along with advances in broadband network technologies are paving the way for video conferencing to reach not only more businesses, but eventually into our homes.

USTelecom Talks MediaNets in Latest Webinar April 30th, 2009

For several years, we’ve seen the rise of network technologies that optimize video delivery from a number of sources –  local TV stations, major broadcast networks, and of course, content producers via the Internet.  In today’s webinar, “MediaNets – The Network Evolution of Video Delivery,” Daniel Jaycox, Consulting Systems Engineer from Cisco introduced the term ‘MediaNets’ as a way to describe an IP network that is optimized for video delivery, and can be robust enough to keep the end user’s experience at a high level.

Jaycox pointed out that over 500 Exabytes of IP traffic will be traversing Internet backbones by 2012, and 90% of that will be generated by consumer video traffic.  He explained how service providers will need an entire video network ecosystem to deliver high quality, reliable video services, while still maintaining profitability.

Today’s USTelecom Webinar: Becoming a Green Telecom Company January 15th, 2009

On Thursday, January 15th, USTelecom and Telco Systems conducted a webinar on how service providers can “Go Green.” This phrase is often over-used, but just as often underestimated. Dr. Zvi Marom, CEO of Telco Systems provided our webinar audience with some great information regarding the challenges and the rewards of being environmentally responsible.

Dr. Marom pointed out how the telecom industry is taking steps to vastly shrink its global carbon footprint. By deploying alternative energy & cooling systems, like solar voltaic cells and more energy efficient computers, switches and routers, the telecom industry can have a significant positive impact on the environment and save a great deal in operating expenses without compromising service to its customers.

Our webinar audience also provided valuable information, like the U.S. federal tax credit incentive of up to 30% of system costs to deploy solar and hydrogen fuel cells solutions. Dr. Marom made it clear that there is still an education learning curve that we all can overcome, and said we can all begin making an impact by just turning the lights off when we’re not using them.

New Webinar: Your Guide to Going Green January 12th, 2009

Today, “going green” is taking root across a wide range of industries – and communications service providers are responding to this call and looking for ways to improve their environmental impact.  The reasons for going green are wide ranging – from national economic pressure to reduce energy consumption to shareholder pressure to reduce operating expenditures and energy costs.  Even consumers are more focused than ever before on companies’ green profile.  Regardless of your company’s reasons for adopting green practices, making simple changes can deliver long-lasting benefits.

In our upcoming webinar, USTelecom provides a straightforward guide to going green that is especially tailored to communications service providers.  In this session, we’ll provide simple action items to help reduce our industry’s power consumption, such as recycling old cell phones, considering solar power and hydrogen fuel cells for central office power, adopting alternative cooling technologies, and deploying highly virtualized servers.

Join USTelecom and Telco System’s CEO Dr. Zvi Marom on Thursday Jan 15th at 1:00PM eastern time, for a free webinar on addressing the service provider challenges of going green.  Register to attend today!
