USTelecom Supports the Vote

Background:  Today the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed a resolution (S. Con. Res. 50) seeking to preserve the multi-stakeholder governance model for the Internet.

The following statement is from USTelecom President & CEO Walter B. McCormick Jr.:

“We are pleased to see action on this important resolution, and applaud Chairman John Kerry and Ranking Member Richard Lugar for scheduling today’s markup. We thank the resolution’s sponsors, Senators Marco Rubio and Claire McCaskill, for their leadership on this issue. We share the senators’ commitment to working against the potentially harmful changes to the International Telecommunications Regulations that could take place at the World Conference on International Communications meeting in December. Passage of today’s resolution is an important step forward in expressing the sense of Congress that it would be a catastrophic mistake if actions are taken to water down or replace the multi-stakeholder governance process under which the Internet has thrived. We pledge our continuing support in working on this effort to ensure restrictions are not placed on the Internet at this critical meeting in December.”
