Mobile Broadband Subscriptions Expected to Double

Mobile broadband subscriptions continue to mushroom thanks to robust broadband networks. Check out these stats:

    • In 2016, the U.S boasted 370 million mobile broadband subscribers – a number that is expected to grow to 425 million by 2022.
    • Globally, the number of broadband subscribers, doubled from 1.8 billion subscribers to 3.6 billion subscribers in 2016, and is now forecasted to double once again from 4.6 billion to 8.3 billion by 2022.
    • Broadband subscriptions made up 60 percent of all mobile connections this quarter, a three percent increase from 2016 year-end.
    • On average, more than 1 million new mobile broadband subscribers will be added every day up to the end of 2022.
    • Currently, 80 percent of the world’s population could potentially connect to a mobile broadband network; with an anticipated 95 percent coverage rate by 2022.

None of this would be possible without wireline broadband infrastructure. And on the eve of the 5G revolution, that infrastructure will be integral to supporting wireless providers as they densify their cellular networks, requiring more backhaul capacity.
