USTelecom Calls for a ‘Broadband First’ Policy

“Broadband first” is a major policy goal at USTelecom, USTelecom Vice President Diane Holland said at the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council’s Broadband and Social Justice Summit in a panel discussion on broadband and 5G deployment. This means working with the Congress and the new administration on programs that support investment in broadband infrastructure, seeking more clarity on how the rules will affect programs like universal service, and working to reduce the costs of deployment for all providers. Holland stressed the importance of working on ways to increase broadband adoption as part of the evolution to greater deployment of advanced communications services like 5G, which will be powered by the nation’s wired infrastructure provided by USTelecom’s members. Making broadband a priority in new infrastructure investment programs can lead to greater deployment, digital inclusion and job opportunities, Holland said.
