U.S. broadband providers invested approximately $76.3 billion in network infrastructure in 2017, up from approximately $74.8 billion in 2016 according to a new USTelecom analysis of company capital expenditures data (see Chart 1). USTelecom has published its broadband provider capital expenditures data series annually for the last eight years. The data now cover 22 years of broadband provider capital investment. This data release includes historical revisions to incorporate new information. From 1996 through 2017, the broadband industry has made capital investments totaling more than $1.6 trillion.
