Marie Johnson Joins USTelecom as Senior Vice President, Communications

WASHINGTON, DC – USTelecom | The Broadband Association, the leading association of connectivity providers and innovators, today announced the recruitment of Marie Johnson as Senior Vice President, Communications. Johnson joins the national broadband group after 12 years at the American Hospital Association, where she led the association’s media strategy, including during the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Marie brings to USTelecom deep communications experience from the trenches of high-stakes national public policy campaigns and a unique perspective on the importance and value of broadband in people’s lives,” said Jonathan Spalter, USTelecom President and CEO. “We’re thrilled to have her savvy and creativity leading our communications work at this critical time for U.S. connectivity.”

Earlier in her career, Johnson served as the media director at UnidosUS, as a senior media relations specialist at the Service Employees International Union and as a public affairs and policy analyst at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Maryland.

Johnson added, “I’m excited to take on this new challenge. I see a clear through-line between my work in health care and the job ahead in broadband. Both are essential to our everyday lives and worthy of high priority by the nation’s policymakers. I’m proud to join a team that’s helping bring the benefits of broadband to everyone in our country.”
