CSDE Adds CTA as Strategic Partner on International Anti-Botnet Guide

The Council to Secure the Digital Economy (CSDE), an alliance of the leading global companies across the technology and communications sectors working cooperatively to address cybersecurity threats, today announced it is partnering with the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM to  complement its ongoing effort to develop an international guide to anti-botnet security practices. The guide will expand on international efforts to address the threat these attacks pose to the global digital economy, currently estimated as high as 20 percent of global GDP.

The announcement comes on the heels of the release in the United States of the “Report to the President on Enhancing Resilience Against Botnets,” prepared for the White House by the Departments of Homeland Security and Commerce, calling on industry and government to “work together to drive best practice adoption.”

“This partnership exemplifies our industry’s leadership in driving cybersecurity solutions across the digital landscape, and we look forward to working with government partners across the globe,” said USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter. “CTA brings additional world-class resources to CSDE’s efforts to develop focused and actionable guidance to address the growing threat from botnets and distributed attacks.”

“With each passing day, cybersecurity is cemented as a priority issue for government and industry alike. Successfully combatting botnets to bolster cybersecurity across the global digital economy will only happen if ICT organizations and governments work together to achieve this shared goal,” said ITI CEO Dean Garfield.

“CTA is excited to join with USTelecom and ITI to develop and promote best practices for fighting botnet threats,” said Gary Shapiro, president & CEO, CTA. “More devices than ever are connected, which means a tailored experience for users but also a growing challenge for technology manufacturers and consumers. Coordination across industries is critical to addressing the global cyber challenges we face, and we’re proud to be part of this effort to make consumers and their devices safer.”

Launched and coordinated by USTelecom and ITI, CSDE represents a broad coalition comprised of 14 major global i infrastructure providers across the information, communications and technology landscape.
