FCC Makes a Positive Move Forward on Connect America Funding

Background: The Federal Communications Commission today approved a Public Notice for the Connect America Fund Phase II Auction, which will award up to $198 million annually over 10 years to service providers for providing fixed voice and broadband service in high-cost areas.

This statement can be attributed to USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter:

“Closing the digital divide requires sustained, targeted support to providers seeking to expand service into rural high-cost areas of the U.S. This proceeding pushes the ball closer to making the remaining Connect America Phase II funds available through an auction. That funding will provide vital support for more broadband infrastructure in rural America and the jobs and other benefits it will bring.”
