Statement: Bipartisan Senate Robocall Legislation

Background: Today, U.S. Senator John Thune (R-SD), chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, and Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) announced the introduction of S. 3655, the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act.

The USTelecom Industry Traceback Group includes 20+ participants from voice providers across the wireline, wireless, VoIP and cable industries working to identify and trace suspicious traffic on networks.

The following statement can be attributed to Kevin Rupy, Vice President Law and Policy at USTelecom:

“USTelecom appreciates Senators Thune and Markey working to protect American consumers from illegal robocalls through the introduction of the TRACED Act. The bill emphasizes the importance of reintroducing trust to the caller ID framework, while strengthening the ability of industry traceback efforts, including those led by USTelecom’s Industry Traceback Group. Its enhancement of federal enforcement efforts appropriately targets illegal robocallers. USTelecom looks forward to working with the senators on this important legislation.”
