Statement: Number Portability and FCC Complaint Process Votes at FCC July Open Meeting

Background: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) considered six items during its July 12, 2018 Open Commission Meeting, including the Nationwide Number Portability Report and Order (WC Docket No. 17-244) that eliminates and eases regulatory requirements that the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions identified as barriers to Nationwide Number Portability; and the Formal Complaint Rules Report and Order (EB Docket No. 17-245) that alters rules governing formal complaint proceedings delegated to the Enforcement Bureau.

The following statement can be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, President & CEO, USTelecom:

“Today, the Commission helped pave the way for the flexibility providers need to adapt networks to meet consumer demands – an important step toward achieving full nationwide number portability. The agency’s vote to amend its complaint rules is also a strong step for consumers, streamlining the complaint process so concerns are addressed promptly and appropriately.”
