Statement: House Passage of “ACCESS BROADBAND Act”

Background: The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the bipartisan “Advancing Critical Connectivity Expands Service, Small Business Resources, Opportunities, Access, and Data Based on Assessed Need and Demand Act” (ACCESS BROADBAND Act; H.R. 3994) requiring the Department of Commerce to establish the Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth inside the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

The following statement can be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, President & CEO, USTelecom:

“The time is right to simplify access to federal broadband resources for families, small businesses and communities in the country’s most difficult to reach areas.  We thank Representatives Paul Tonko (NY-20) and Leonard Lance (NJ-7) for their commitment to universal connectivity, and we urge the Senate to pass similar legislation to bolster NTIA’s capacity to close the digital divide.”
