Statement on the Relaunch of the Universal Service Fund Working Group

Today, U.S. Senators Deb Fischer (R-NE), Chair of the Senate Telecommunications and Media Subcommittee, and Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), Ranking Member, announced the reconstitution of the Universal Service Fund (USF) Working Group. In the House, Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chair Richard Hudson (R-NC9) and Ranking Member Doris Matsui (D-CA7) are leading the effort.

The following statement is from USTelecom President and CEO Jonathan Spalter:

“The Universal Service Fund plays a vital role in connecting millions of Americans by supporting broadband access in rural communities, schools, libraries, and hospitals that would otherwise struggle to get online. Senators Fischer and Luján, and Representatives Hudson and Matsui, understand the urgency of this mission and the importance of ensuring USF remains strong, sustainable, and future-proof. That’s why they’re relaunching this bipartisan working group at a critical time for the future of the program. We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and work with lawmakers to strengthen USF and deliver on the promise of universal connectivity for all Americans.”
