Background: On June 20, 2018 the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced a request for comments in connection with its upcoming public hearings on “Competition and Consumer Protection in the 21st Century,” which seek to determine how to adjust the Agency’s enforcement priorities and policies. USTelecom filed comments with the Commission on Monday, August 20, 2018.
The following statement can be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, President & CEO, USTelecom:
“With its proposed series of hearings on consumer internet protections and competition, along with the request for today’s public comments, it is clear that the new FTC leadership is taking seriously its mandate to become a vigilant ‘cop on the beat’ of all parts of the internet ecosystem.
“The FTC has a great opportunity to bring confidence, competition, openness, and investment to our next phase of internet innovation. All of our USTelecom members look ahead with optimism and intention as the Agency moves forward in the development of uniform protections for all consumers online, whether they access the internet over the edge or core.”
