Statement on Possible Net Neutrality Legislation

Background: Following news reports of potential Congressional legislation on net neutrality, USTelecom-The Broadband Association issued the following statement.

The following statement can be attributed to USTelecom President and CEO Jonathan Spalter:

“America’s broadband customers have waited far too long for Congress to step up and codify the important net neutrality principles that broadband providers already follow today. But let’s be clear: any such legislation cannot and must not be a backdoor for government to regulate prices and degrade the consumer internet experience.

Today, it’s a fact that consumers benefit from a thriving, open and dynamic internet, complete with countless choices and low-cost options. Last year alone, American broadband providers invested $86 Billion in their networks, the highest level in 20 years. Any potential government effort to regulate prices under the cover of net neutrality would hurt consumers, slow investment and stifle competition. Let’s keep moving our internet forward, not backward.”
