Industry statistics indicate that broadband deployment is keeping pace with the increasing demand for broadband services nationwide – reflecting increasing capital investment and deployment.


Whether analyzed over a 15-year period or on a year-to-year basis, broadband providers are committing immense capital resources to ensure that broadband is sufficiently deployed in a timely manner. In fact, despite the flat economy, broadband providers’ capital expenditures are increasing, reflecting the United States’ status as a world leader in broadband availability, adoption and usage.

Carrier Impact

In his 2011 State of the Union address, President Obama set a goal of connecting 98 percent of the country to the mobile Internet in the next five years. The essential foundation to achieving such a goal is a robust fixed-broadband infrastructure.

Additionally, the Federal Communications Commission’s recent Report on Consumer Wireline Broadband Performance studying residential broadband service confirmed that American consumers receive broadband speeds that meet or exceed those advertised by broadband providers.

U.S. broadband providers invest between $50 billion and $60 billion each year. More than 95 percent of the U.S. population has access to broadband infrastructure.
